Tourists visiting the Făgăraș Mountains can now access a platform that brings together the area’s Local Gastronomic Points. Through its Roadele Munților division, Foundation Conservation Carpathia launches the website pglfagaras.ro, offering direct access to culinary experiences hosted in local households, based on clean ingredients and traditional recipes.
The platform brings together Local Gastronomic Points developed in communities in the southern Făgăraș Mountains and authorised with the support of Foundation Conservation Carpathia, in collaboration with DSVSA Argeș. The Foundation continues to provide consultancy for households wishing to open a Local Gastronomic Point.
The website centralises all Local Gastronomic Points in Argeș County and provides information about each one, including their story, address and booking details. At present, the platform features 10 such locations, with more to be added as new households join the initiative.
Visitors can discover the unique experiences offered by each host, from recipes passed down by village elders to peaceful orchard meals or dishes prepared with ingredients gathered directly from the forest. Users can easily locate each place on the map and contact hosts directly to make reservations.
“The website comes at a time when more and more people are looking for simple experiences, closer to nature and local communities,” said Istvan Szabo, Community Relations Director at Foundation Conservation Carpathia. “Local Gastronomic Points offer exactly this: meals prepared in family households, using local ingredients, in small batches and based on recipes preserved within families. For those visiting the area, a meal becomes more than just lunch — it becomes a direct encounter with local people and their way of life.”
Authentic Culinary Experiences
The Local Gastronomic Points featured on the platform are family-run households in Argeș and Brașov counties, where meals are prepared on the same day using ingredients from the household itself or from nearby producers, in limited quantities and usually by reservation only. Experiences available on the platform include:
- Atelierul de Gusturi Prețioase din Poiana Fermecată (Bughea de Jos commune) – artisanal products and recipes shaped over time.
- Casa Luiza (Podu Dâmboviței village, Dâmbovicioara commune) – dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients directly from the household.
- Casa Tanti Maria (Lunca Gârtii, Stoenești commune) – meals cooked in a cauldron over a wood fire, following local village recipes.
- Cer de Munte (Gruiu village, Nucșoara commune) – simple dishes inspired by the area’s everyday life.
- La Caezu (Slatina village, Nucșoara commune) – home-style food made with carefully selected ingredients.
- La Cocoș în Deal (Corbșori village, Corbi commune) – meals prepared with ingredients from the family garden and mountain flavours.
- La Familia Dorcea (Lăicăi village, Cetățeni commune) – relaxed family meals served in a welcoming setting.
- La Saivan (Dealul Sasului, Dâmbovicioara) – a family dining experience centred around inherited recipes.
- Poienița Ursului (Poienița Ursului, Fundățica village, Fundata commune) – traditional dishes served in an open mountain setting.
- Wild Wolf Chalet (Sătic village, Rucăr commune) – an experience that begins in nature and continues around the table.
Social and Economic Impact
For many families, these points represent an important source of income. Every meal served at a Local Gastronomic Point is a direct investment in the future of the Romanian village and in preserving the traditions of the Făgăraș Mountains area. By choosing these places, visitors directly support small producers and the local economy, where money remains and circulates within the community.
The platform is part of the Local Economy Transformation programme, run by the Community Relations Department of Foundation Conservation Carpathia. Through this programme, the Foundation provides free consultancy to households wishing to become Local Gastronomic Points. Locals are guided step by step, from preparing the authorisation documents to promoting their offers.
Those interested, especially from the Făgăraș Mountains area in Argeș County, can contact the Foundation’s team to learn how they can open such a point.
In this way, culinary traditions are transformed into a sustainable activity that brings income and continuity to local communities.
Whether you are planning a weekend hike or a longer holiday, visit pglfagaras.ro and book your place at the table directly in local households across the region.
