Infrastructure for the future National Park
We are building a remarkable National Park, with protected areas as well as trails, visitor centres and many other facilities for everyone who wants to come here.
Supporting Communities in making the most of their culture and natural surroundings
We have built the first infrastructure elements for the future Făgăraș Mountains National Park: visitor centres, trails and themed paths, and camping areas.
Every place tells a story: about animals, ecosystems and the connection between people and nature.
We are developing:
• Ecotourism infrastructure: wildlife observation points, glamping facilities, guesthouses and mountain huts.
• Infrastructure for communities and local tourism: visitor centres, trails and themed paths, campgrounds.
• Administrative infrastructure: administrative and logistic facilities.
• Educational infrastructure: educational centres and outdoor spaces for educational activities.
Beaver's House
The beaver's engineering talent inspired us to bring together all the information about its world in an interactive exhibition that is interesting for all ages. You will discover how important beavers are to ecological balance and why their return to the south-eastern part of the Făgăraș Mountains is a reason to celebrate.
Located along the Bran–Rucăr Corridor, in an area where the mountains open up fascinating landscapes to visitors, Beaver's House is an attraction for those choosing to spend their holidays at guesthouses in the area.
The centre was built with care and respect for nature by Foundation Conservation Carpathia, with support from the European Commission through the LIFE+ programme and the Arcadia Foundation. It is the first in a network of visitor centres that Foundation Conservation Carpathia is building in communities around the Făgăraș Mountains. In this way, we are developing the visitor infrastructure of the future Făgăraș Mountains National Park and encouraging visitors to learn more about its nature.
Ticket price: 10 lei for adults, 5 lei for children*
* The rate applies to children aged 5–17. Residents of Rucăr Commune have free admission.
Address: Rucăr Commune, 117630, E574 Road no. 124.
Bison's House
The European bison is the largest land mammal in Europe, and its role in nature is equally significant. It creates open spaces in the forest, manages vegetation through grazing, transports seeds and helps other species thrive by creating suitable habitats through its activities. Today, the European bison is an important tourist attraction in the areas where it has been reintroduced, generating income for local communities.
At the Bison's House, you can discover the remarkable life and history of this majestic animal in detail. The visitor centre is located in the village of Voinești, Lerești Commune, Argeș County. Information is presented through interactive installations that are engaging for all ages. During your visit, you can discover:
• How the European bison contributes to maintaining and increasing biodiversity.
• What it feeds on.
• How it interacts with other species.
• How it became a symbol of national pride.
• Where it can be found in Romania and other European countries.
… and many other fascinating facts.
The centre was built with care and respect for nature by Foundation Conservation Carpathia, with support from the European Commission through the LIFE+ programme and the Arcadia Foundation. It is the second in a network of visitor centres that Foundation Conservation Carpathia is building in communities around the Făgăraș Mountains. We are developing the visitor infrastructure of the future Făgăraș Mountains National Park and encouraging visitors to contribute to nature conservation.

Vulture’s House
The Vulture’s House is a future project, currently in the planning stage.
Nature's Architects themed trail
The themed trail adds a unique hiking experience to the Făgăraș Mountains tourism map and promotes the natural values, biodiversity, landscapes and local culture of Nucșoara Commune. It combines hiking with nature interpretation and brings three ‘architects’ of nature into focus: the European bison, reintroduced in the Nucșoara area; the beaver, known for the way it transforms its habitat; and people, who shape the landscape. Developed by the Foundation Conservation Carpathia with the support of Nucșoara Town Hall, the ‘Architects of Nature’ trail is 3.7 kilometres long, takes approximately 2–3 hours to complete and has an easy difficulty level, making it suitable for families, teenagers and adults of all ages.
Information panels along the trail provide accessible explanations and attractive illustrations, turning the hike into an interactive lesson in the heart of nature. There are three rest areas along the route, located both in clearings and in a panoramic area, allowing hikers to admire the scenery and take a break. These areas can also be used by groups of children who can visit with their teachers and hold lessons in nature.
The Nature's Architects trail was developed as part of the LIFE Carpathia project ‘Creating a Wilderness Area in the Southern Carpathian Mountains, Romania’, LIFE18 NAT/RO/001082), together with the Romanian Ecotourism Association.
Partisans’ Altar trail
Partisans’ Altar, now a visitor attraction, was a place of prayer and reflection for the ‘Muscel Outlaws’, the anti-communist resistance group from Nucșoara.
The trail is 7.3 km long, crosses grasslands with centuries-old beech trees and offers a stop at the altar, beside the rock embraced by nature. It then continues through the village of Nucșoara, included on the Traditional Architecture Villages Route.
Richita Nature Activities and Exploration Centre
Opened in 2021, the Richita Nature Activities and Exploration Centre is located in the southern Făgăraș Mountains and gives children and young people the opportunity to discover nature through direct outdoor experiences.
Rebuilt from a former forestry lodge and harmoniously integrated into the natural landscape, the centre is off-grid, operates using 100% renewable energy, and promotes a responsible way of living in harmony with nature.
The centre's employees come from local communities, while the food is provided by local farmers through our food-hub Roadele Muntilor.
Carpathia Logistics Centre
In Rucăr, on the southern side of the Făgăraș Mountains, we have built our first Logistics Centre to support nature conservation activities and projects benefiting local communities.
Built with local craftspeople and carpenters, using locally sourced timber and labour, the centre reflects our commitment to supporting the local economy.
The complex includes administrative facilities, a carpentry workshop offering practical training opportunities for students from a local high school in Rucăr, a food storage facility for Roadele Munților, accommodation for volunteers and researchers, and three barns for storing materials and equipment used by our field teams.
Wildlife hides
Wildlife hides offer the opportunity for authentic encounters with wildlife and contribute to the development of responsible tourism based on respect for nature and memorable experiences in the future Făgăraș Mountains National Park.
