Try to find the sapling in the first photo!
Weeding around saplings is vital before winter, if we want a new forest! Without it, saplings would be suffocated by the grass and other pioneer species, that grow faster then the baby tree. Seasonal workers hired from the local communities do a great job, in rough conditions (altitude, inclination, weather), but obtaining finances every year is a challenge. Without weeding all the saplings replanted have less of a chance to survive…
Since 2012 we have helped 400 ha of clear-cut to come back to life, in the Southern Carpathians. The regeneration level was minimum or nonexistent. Not all the forests recover by themselves! Life+ funding was vital!
