Erosion problems are serious in several clear-cut areas where tractors have pulled logs down the slopes and rain and melting snow have been cutting deep rills into the forest soils. We have measured the density of skidding tracks, the depth and width of rills and also have tried to assess the sufficiency of organic and non-organic material that is available in the vicinity of the degraded areas and that can be used to halt further erosion and to repair the forest floor. The next step is to analyse this field data and to develop a technical plan for the restoration of the forest floor in the areas that were hit worst.
