First cuttings to initiate the conversion of spruce monocultures just started in Leresti Valley, taking advantage of the temporary milder weather and a thin snow layer. Until next summer we expect to have covered a total area of 126 ha of spruce monocultures, with this type of intervention.
More than 60% of the timber resulting from the cuttings will be bark-peeled and remain as dead timber in the forest, while in the higher altitudes all timber will remain as dead wood. Extracted wood will be processed and used partially as firewood donations to schools and town halls, and as well as for the necessary infrastructure for the CARPATHIA project.
