The CARPATHIA area is covered with a thick layer of snow. Parts of the wildlife has moved into the lower areas, but chamois, otters, lynx and wolves, and some wild boar and red deer are still present way back in the mountains. It is a good time to monitor wildlife as we easily can identify their tracks in the snow and they often do not move large distances. We started to break trails through the deep snow with the snowmobiles to allow us to get into the areas and do concentrated monitoring activities. It looks easy, but breaking snowmobile trails is hard work and after a day in the mountains we feel every individual muscle.
