As scheduled, we continued this autumn to replant another 10 ha of clear-felled areas purchased within the LIFE project. Due to favorable weather conditions, we succeeded to plant a total number of 43,000 saplings, out of which 48% were beech, 29% sycamore, 3 % rowan, 1 % elm and 19 % grey alder. Another 8,300 beech and 500 sycamore saplings were planted in the spruce monocultures that are going to be converted into forests with a more natural species composition. Here we introduced the saplings into the openings created by cutting groups of trees across the artificial spruce monocultures in Leresti Valley. This activity lasted for three weeks, during which FCC rangers were responsible for leading teams of daily-laborers from the adjacent villages.
